Wands and Wandcraft
- NOTOC**
The Arcane Wand System turns wands and magical staffs into active ranged weapons for spellcasters.
While an eligible wand is equipped, your character can fire magical bolts at a combat target. Wand attacks use caster skills rather than ordinary weapon skills, consume a small amount of mana, build arcane charge, and can activate powerful wand masteries.
Advanced wands can also gain levels through use. Rare Lineage Wands possess an additional inherited ability that can activate independently of the normal charge system.
Meditation and Focus improve accuracy and charge support, while Inscription adds additional magical damage scaling. Specialized skills can further strengthen particular wand masteries.
|
1
Equip an eligible wand or magical staff.
|
2
Enter War Mode.
|
3
Select a valid combat target.
|
4
Remain within range and line of sight.
|
5
The wand automatically fires magical bolts.
|
Each wand attack consumes 2 mana.
The normal attack range is 10 tiles. Aero-aligned wands receive additional range.
Wand attack speed is influenced primarily by your character's Intelligence. Powerful wands and an active Aero effect can further improve the firing rhythm, but wand attacks cannot become faster than the system's minimum delay.
|
Magery
The primary wand-control skill. Magery supplies most of the wand's accuracy and also contributes to its damage.
|
Evaluating Intelligence
The largest skill-based contributor to normal wand damage. It also improves Lineage Wand activation and effect strength.
|
Meditation and Focus
Both skills improve wand accuracy. At 100.0, each also adds charge support and improves the chance of draining mana from enemies.
|
Inscription
Adds further damage scaling to normal wand bolts and is an important skill for crafting advanced wands.
|
Enemy Magic Resistance helps defend against wand attacks. Player targets receive additional defensive protection, and most wand effects are reduced or restricted during player combat.
|
Compatible Wands and Staffs
Legacy wands, magic staffs, wizard staffs, and several ordinary staff types can use wand attacks, charge, mana leech, and the selected mastery system.
|
Enhanced Arcane Wands
Crafted enhanced wands possess a defined quality, magical resource, natural affinity, individual Wand Level, and their own experience progression.
|
Lineage Wands
Rare advanced wands made from special wandwoods and magical cores. Each has a named lineage and an additional automatic lineage ability.
|
Enhanced and Lineage Wands are one-handed and possess Spell Channeling, allowing them to remain equipped while casting compatible spells.
Only enhanced wand types gain individual Wand Levels. A compatible legacy wand or ordinary staff can use the broader combat system but does not gain Lineage abilities or individual wand progression.
| Quality | General Performance | Base Charge Per Hit |
|---|---|---|
| Crude | Low damage and accuracy, but still able to participate in the wand system. | 7 |
| Apprentice | Entry-level caster wand with modest charge and mana-leech potential. | 9 |
| Adept | Improved damage, accuracy, charge generation, and mana recovery. | 11 |
| Expert | Strong performance suitable for experienced caster builds. | 13 |
| Masterwork | High damage and reliability, with an additional Lineage activation bonus. | 15 |
| Arcane | Exceptional accuracy, power, charge generation, and Lineage performance. | 18 |
| Legendary | The highest wand quality, providing the strongest overall base performance and Lineage bonus. | 22 |
The wand's magical resource can add further charge beyond the values shown above. Characters with 100.0 Meditation or Focus also receive additional charge support.
| Wand Material | Natural Affinity | General Character |
|---|---|---|
| Basic Wood | None | A neutral foundation for apprentice and specialty wands. |
| Arcane Wood | Aero | Accuracy, speed, range, and magical rhythm. |
| Crystal | Fortune | High accuracy, mana support, and unpredictable magical bursts. |
| Bone | Death | Necromantic and spirit-oriented wandcraft. |
| Shadowwood | Shadow | Strong accuracy and disruptive shadow magic. |
| Bloodwood | Blood | High damage and strong life- or mana-leeching potential. |
| Heartwood | Nature | Balanced support, healing, and companion-oriented magic. |
| Frostwood | Earth | Defensive warding and magical protection. |
| Demon Bone | Doom | Extremely high damage and dark magical pressure. |
| Fey Essence | Holy | Exceptional accuracy, charge support, and companion assistance. |
| Arcane Conflux Core | Fire | The strongest general damage material, combining several arcane properties. |
Wand quality and material determine the chance and amount of mana that can be leeched from a successful attack.
Higher-quality wands and magical materials such as Bloodwood, Demon Bone, Fey Essence, and the Arcane Conflux Core provide stronger mana-leech potential.
Characters with at least 100.0 Meditation or 100.0 Focus receive an additional chance to activate mana leech.
Mana leech does not activate against player characters or controlled creatures.
|
Successful Hits
Successful wand strikes add charge based upon the wand's quality, material, Meditation, and Focus.
|
Missed Attacks
A missed wand bolt still provides a small amount of charge, allowing the mastery cycle to continue even during an unlucky series of attacks.
|
Full Charge
At 100 charge, the next successful attack releases the selected Wand Mastery and resets the charge to zero.
|
Arcane Charge and your selected mastery are stored on your character, not on the individual wand.
Switching between compatible wands does not normally erase your current charge. The Wand Level and Wand Experience of an enhanced wand, however, belong to that specific item.
[WandOpens the Enhanced Wand interface. Equip a compatible wand or staff before using the command.
|
[WandStatusDisplays the equipped wand, current charge, selected mastery, and the Wand Level and experience of an enhanced wand.
|
Double-Click the Wand
Double-click an enhanced wand while it is equipped or directly inside your backpack to open the same interface.
|
The Wand interface displays:
• the currently equipped wand
• current charge out of 100
• the selected Wand Mastery
• wand quality and material
• descriptions of all available masteries
• a crafting-help page
| Mastery | Effect | Supporting Skills |
|---|---|---|
| Fire | Deals additional fire damage and creates a temporary burning field beneath the target. | Magery and Evaluating Intelligence |
| Aero | Temporarily quickens the caster's wand attack rhythm. | Intelligence and wand quality |
| Earth | Creates a short defensive shield. | Magic Resistance |
| Bulwark | Creates a stronger short-duration absorption shield. | Magic Resistance |
| Artisan | Forms a crafted protection ward around the caster. | Carpentry, Tinkering, and Inscription |
| Blood | Deals magical damage and heals the caster for part of the damage caused. | Evaluating Intelligence and Spirit Speak |
| Nature | Heals nearby controlled companions belonging to the caster. | Companion-focused builds |
| Death | Infects the target with a short necrotic damage-over-time effect. | Necromancy and Spirit Speak |
| Holy | Grants a reserve of holy companion-support charges. | Magery and Spirit Speak |
| Doom | Marks the target so it receives increased damage for a short period. | Dark caster builds |
| Lyrical | Briefly pacifies or stills a creature. | Peacemaking and Musicianship |
| Fortune | Releases an unpredictable burst of energy damage. | Luck |
| Shadow | Blinds the target and releases a temporary cloud of shadow fog. | Hiding and Stealth |
| Poison | Poisons the target and may spread poison to nearby enemies. | Poisoning |
A wand's natural affinity identifies the magic most closely associated with its construction, but players may choose a different active mastery through the Wand interface.
Full wand masteries are heavily restricted during player combat. Wand attacks and Lineage effects may still occur at reduced strength, but the normal charge release is primarily intended for fighting creatures.
|
Earning Experience
Successful wand strikes award experience to the individual enhanced wand. More damaging attacks provide more progression, and Luck may improve the amount received.
|
Growing Stronger
Each Wand Level adds a small amount of normal wand damage and improves the activation chance of Lineage abilities.
|
Maximum Level
An enhanced wand can reach a maximum of Wand Level 100. Each later level requires more experience than the level before it.
|
Wand progression belongs to the item.
Trading an enhanced wand transfers its current Wand Level and experience to the new owner. Beginning to use another wand starts with whatever progression is already stored on that item.
A Lineage Wand displays several unique properties:
• its named lineage
• the wandwood from which it was formed
• its magical core
• its length and flexibility
• a short description of its magical temperament
• its inherited Lineage ability
Lineage abilities are completely separate from Arcane Charge and Wand Masteries. They may activate automatically whenever the wand lands a successful attack, even when the wand is not fully charged.
|
Magery and Evaluating Intelligence
The character's normal Magery and Evaluating Intelligence values increase the chance that a successful wand strike will awaken its Lineage effect.
|
Evolved Skill Levels
Each Evolution Level in Magery and Evaluating Intelligence adds a meaningful bonus to Lineage activation. The combined levels also strengthen many Lineage effects.
|
Wand Level and Quality
A higher Wand Level improves Lineage activation. Masterwork, Arcane, and Legendary quality wands receive additional activation bonuses.
|
A Lineage effect begins with a small natural chance to activate.
That chance improves through:
• Magery
• Evaluating Intelligence
• Evolved Magery
• Evolved Evaluating Intelligence
• the individual Wand Level
• Masterwork, Arcane, or Legendary quality
The maximum activation chance is 16% against creatures and 8% against players.
After a Lineage effect activates, it cannot activate again for approximately 5 seconds in creature combat or 10 seconds in player combat.
For most Lineage abilities, the combined Evolution Levels of Magery and Evaluating Intelligence directly increase the resulting damage, healing, mana restoration, shielding, or stamina disruption.
This makes Evolved Skill progression especially valuable to characters who intend to use Lineage Wands as a major part of their combat style.
| Lineage Ability | Affinities | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Echo Bolt | Aero | Releases a second magical energy strike. Its damage grows with the original wand hit and Evolved Skill levels. |
| Mana Bloom | Fortune | Restores mana to the caster. Against creatures, a highly evolved caster may occasionally receive a complete mana restoration. |
| Soul Rend | Death and Doom | Tears additional energy from the target and returns part of the damage as mana. |
| Renewing Pulse | Nature and Holy | Sends restorative energy back through the wand, healing the caster and restoring mana. |
| Ward Weave | Earth, Bulwark, and Artisan | Creates a brief protective shield. Its strength improves through Evolution Levels and Wand Level. |
| Flame Echo | Fire | Follows the original wand bolt with a second burst of fire damage. |
| Venom Pulse | Poison | Poisons the target. Against creatures, higher Poisoning skill can increase the poison's strength. |
| Shadow Snap | Shadow | Deals additional energy damage and drains the target's stamina. |
| Lyrical Daze | Lyrical | Disrupts the target's rhythm by draining stamina. Musicianship provides additional strength. |
| Lineage Ability | Known Wands |
|---|---|
| Echo Bolt | Wand of Twin Dawn and Spring Ash Wand |
| Mana Bloom | Scholar's Vine Wand, Birch Decree Wand, Hazel Seer Wand, and Cedar Insight Wand |
| Soul Rend | Wand of Pale Yew, Wand of the Last Silence, Black Walnut Command Wand, and Iron Hornbeam Wand |
| Renewing Pulse | Loyal Ash Wand, Willow Renewal Wand, Cherry Hearth Wand, and Cypress Vigil Wand |

Attempting a craft can consume some materials on failure. The crafting menu displays the exact materials, skill ranges, and success chance before you begin.
Lineage recipes use a named wandwood and a magical core in addition to boards, Arcane Dust, Wand Crystals, and gold.
The major crafting categories are:
• Supreme Core Wands — Advanced phoenix feather, dragon heartstring, and unicorn hair constructions.
• Rare Core Wands — Extremely difficult lineages using rare materials such as thestral tail hair, veela hair, and basilisk horn.
• Scholarly Wands — Fortune, Artisan, Shadow, and Lyrical wands suited to magical study and control.
• Battle Wands — Fire, Doom, Bulwark, and Artisan lineages designed for direct combat.
• Natural Wands — Nature, Holy, and Earth lineages associated with healing, protection, and survival.
All Lineage recipes require Carpentry, Magery, and Inscription.
Additional skill requirements depend upon the affinity:
• Fire, Doom, Death, and Poison lineages require Evaluating Intelligence.
• Nature, Holy, and Lyrical lineages require Meditation.
• Artisan and Bulwark lineages require Tinkering.
• Other lineages generally require additional Meditation.
The most difficult Lineage Wands require skills beyond Grandmaster level and are intended as long-term crafting goals.
• Equip a compatible wand or staff and enter War Mode to begin attacking.
• Each automatic wand attack consumes 2 mana.
• Magery supplies most wand accuracy.
• Evaluating Intelligence supplies most skill-based wand damage.
• Meditation and Focus improve accuracy and charge support.
• Inscription adds further normal wand damage.
• Successful attacks and misses both build Arcane Charge.
• At 100 charge, the selected Wand Mastery activates automatically on the next successful attack.
• Use [Wand to select a mastery.
• Use [WandStatus to check charge and progression.
• Arcane Charge belongs to the character.
• Wand Level and Wand Experience belong to the individual enhanced wand.
• Enhanced wands can reach Wand Level 100.
• Lineage abilities are separate from charge and Wand Masteries.
• Evolved Magery and Evaluating Intelligence improve Lineage activation.
• Their combined Evolution Levels strengthen many Lineage effects.
• Lineage activation is capped at 16% against creatures and 8% against players.
• Higher wand quality and Wand Level improve Lineage activation.
• Full Wand Masteries are restricted during player combat.
• No Mysticism or Spellweaving is required to use or craft these wands.
